A plan where LA THRIVES

Safety

The Problem

We've been forced to live with too much crime and violence on our streets. And we've seen firsthand that our city is not prepared to protect us from disasters. Our recovery from the fires has been unacceptably slow. LA deserves better.

The Solution

We can make LA safer and more resilient. We will put more officers on patrol, expand our mental health response, and leverage modern technology for smarter, more effective policing. And we will rebuild our disaster preparedness so that when the next crisis hits, LA is ready. Safety is the foundation of everything else — a city cannot have vibrancy, economic mobility, or real solutions to homelessness without it.

How we'll do it

Public Safety

  • Increase time on patrol by reducing administrative burden on officers through automation
  • Expand the mental health public safety task force
  • Leverage modern technology for surveillance and investigation
  • Replace helicopters with drones for faster, more cost-effective response
  • Implement Flock Safety technology city-wide
  • Encourage community-based patrols

Resiliency & Disaster Preparedness

  • Bring in expert consultants on wildfire risk mitigation
  • Stand up a forestry corps to lead cleanups and vegetation clearings
  • Develop a modern, comprehensive disaster plan
  • Contract with third parties to supplement incident response operations
  • Require utilities to improve monitoring and uptime, including wireless operators
  • Build a desalination plant to meet minimum required water needs
